She can act, she can dance, she can model, she can veejay, and now Anusha Dandekar is all set to prove that she can sing as well. Along with sisters Shibani and Apeksha Dandekar, she has formed a girl pop group, D Major, and is gearing up to release her first pop album in the coming couple of months.

Dandekar exclaims excitedly, “My mother is one of the most fantastic singers ever, but she never pursued singing as a career. Apeksha, my younger sister, trained classically for a while and Shibani, my older sister, and I also got a bit of vocal training, but it was all in good fun until recently.”

The three sisters decided to take it up seriously when Apeksha, who is working in a music company in London and Shibani, who is a television anchor in New York, met up in London three years ago and started writing songs. Collaborations soon followed, and Tigerstyle and Dboy, two UK-based producers, came on board.

“Even Bohemia has rapped for our album,” Dandekar reveals. “We are extremely honored that everyone was so supportive. We’ve got a track with Ishq Bector too, as well as a number of other UK-based rappers. The album will have hip-hop elements, lots of pop, lots of R ‘n’ B, and of course, Hindi and Punjabi.”

Pop show
Eight songs have been recorded and mastered, and though the songs haven’t been “officially” put out on radio or TV channels, they are available for streaming on their website majoronline.com. And doing just that has even landed the sisters on the coverpage of a popular Australian entertainment magazine, Poprepublic.

Dandekar is all smiles, “It makes us so proud that three Indian girls were on the cover of an Australian magazine. Even desihits.com, which is a big music website in the USA, featured us on their cover page.”

The MTV VJ also feels that the fact that they were brought up in Australia, with completely Indian moral values, works well for them in both worlds. “And of course, the fact that we are sisters means there won’t be any bitching or cattiness. So everyone seems happy to work with us,” she laughs.

Currently, the trio is finalising the nitty-gritties of the album and working towards its first music video. “We want to make something that is a mix of both the East and the West,” Dandekar says. “Why limit ourselves in terms of market? We want to take over the world.”
