Father and son gunned down in Ghaziabad home, police suspect rivalry

A father and son were gunned down by around six unidentified armed assailants inside their house at Ujheda in Modi Nagar town of Ghaziabad, early Sunday.
The victim’s family said that indiscriminate firing had ripped off the upper head portion of both the victims as armed intruders fired nearly 20-22 rounds from different weapons.
It was around 2.30am on Sunday when Jaspal Singh, 55, and his son Rahul, 20, and Jaspal’s 42-year-old wife Geeta were fast asleep inside their house when the armed assailants climbed the boundary wall and barged inside the house.
“They opened fire only on my brother and my father. They did not harm my mother. When I reached home after a call, nearly 20-22 empty cartridges, fired from .32 and 9 mm weapons, lay scattered. The upper portion of my father’s head as well as Rahul’s was ripped apart by gunshots,” said Dhirendra Singh, Jaspal’s elder son, who is a police constable and is posted at Bijnor.
His mother could not identify the accused as the lights were off and she was shocked to see the crime, Dhirendra said.
The police were informed about the incident around 4am and a complaint was filed. Later, an FIR on grounds of rioting, trespassing house for assault and murder was lodged against the unidentified accused at the Niwari police station.
Senior police officials who reached the scene of crime said that there was no motive of robbery behind the incident as none of the valuables was reported missing from the house.
Rahul had completed his Class 12 and was preparing for police recruitment exams. His grandfather had also been a police official.
“The assailants only had the intention to kill the victims. We suspect a personal rivalry behind the killings as the victims were brutally killed, as if the assailants had come to take revenge. It appears that the family knows something about the incident but is not sharing the information with us. We will seek more information once they are free of the cremation rituals,” said Rajesh Kumar Singh, circle officer, Modi Nagar.
The bodies were later sent for post mortem examination and forensic teams were associated to get clues about the incident. Police sources said that they were seeking information from neighbours about any rivals of the victim’s family.
