Pune police arrest deputy director of land records in Rs 1.7 crore bribery case

Wankhede was remanded to police custody till March 28

The deputy director of land record department of Pune was arrested by the Pune unit of Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday. Identified as Balasaheb Wankhede, the deputy director was on the run since December when the case was registered at Bund Garden police station, according to a statement issued by Anti Corruption Bureau.

On December 26, an Anti Corruption Bureau team had trapped a lawyer, Rohit Shende for taking Rs 1.70 crore bribe allegedly on behalf of Wankhede for helping the complainant (name not revealed due to complainants request) secure a favourable ruling in an appeal relating to a land in Parvati. Wankhede was remanded to police custody till March 28. On February 4, Wankhede had approached a local court in Pune for the anticipatory bail in the case. However, his application was  turned down. Assistant police commissioner Dattatray Bhapkar of ACB, Pune is investigating the case.
