According to Pooja Handa, 45, her husband Ravinder Kumar was a health worker with the Ludhiana municipal corporation and died in 2012 after illness due to cancer. The family had then applied for a job for the 22-year-old Nikhil, son of Ravinder, but still waiting for the job. The family has met the civic body officials several times, but all in vain.

Som Nath, father of Pooja, said: “We had attended sangat darshan on July 15 and on August 5 and were asked to visit the office again on August 26. Now, the officials claim that they will look into our complaint, but we don’t know how much time they will take to settle the matter.” “My grandson had taken admission in engineering course after passing out Class 12 but left the course as the family was unable to pay the fee,” said Som Nath. He said they were demanding from the MC to give a job to Nikhil as it was his right. “We demand from MC to give any job for which Nikhil is eligible as it is getting difficult for us to run a family without job,” he said.

AS Sekhon, chief of health and sanitation wing, said: “We are looking into the matter and will soon give him job according to his eligibility."
