Two days after the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) chairman Maninder Singh stated that the CHB governing body had approved the floor-wise sale of the CHB flats, UT chief architect Kapil Setia, who is also the member of the CHB governing body, said it was decided to defer the agenda, but we don’t know how the chairman approved and issued the press release.

Earlier too, the chief architect raised strong objections over the approving the grilles at CHB houses, later the matter was differed. Speaking to HT, Setia said it was decided to defer the agenda as there are some technical issues and will only be approved after consulting the UT estate office. “I do not know how the chairman considered it as approved. I will speak to him on Monday.”

The press release issued on October 16 had stated that in the meeting held on October 14, permission was given for the sale of independent CHB flats percentage/area/floor-wise and the flats would be registered on the basis of share, including ground floor (50%), first floor (30%) and second floor (20%).

According to the conditions laid for the sale, there should be separate independent entrance/exit to the dwelling units and each unit should comprise a minimum one habitable room, kitchen, toilet/WC and bath complying with the bylaws in terms of area, light, ventilation and hygiene.

The CHB chairman could not be contacted for comments.

Last week too, Setia had strongly objected to allowing of grilles in balconies and verandahs of CHB houses of all categories and rehabilitation colonies. CHB chairman had claimed that the said agenda was approved in the September 2 governing body meeting.

The chief architect then had shot off a strong-worded letter to the CHB chief, saying it would have wide ramifications as it could adversely affect the urban design group housing units. Later, the issue came up during the governing body meeting, where it was deferred.
