To find clues to the killers involved in murder of senior journalist KJ Singh and his mother, cops spent several hours questioning his family members, including his brother, sisters and nephew.

Probe into the Mohali double murder kept the police department — from Punjab director general of police Hardeep Singh Dhillon to the lower ranks — busy on Monday.

To find clues to the killers, cops spent several hours questioning family members of KJ Singh, including his brother, sisters and nephew. KJ Singh, 63, a senior journalist, and his bedridden mother Gurcharan Kaur, 92, were found murdered at their Phase-3B2 house on Saturday noon. KJ was stabbed at least 15 times while his mother was strangulated.

To question nephew’s ex-wife

Police said they have found KJ’s personal diary, in which he had mentioned minute details of his friends and family members. They are also looking into the recent divorce of his nephew Ajaypal and will be questioning his former wife and her family members, said sources.

KJ Singh, a senior journalist, and his bedridden mother Gurcharan Kaur (92), were found murdered at their Phase-3B2 house. KJ was stabbed at least 15 times while his mother was strangulated.

The double murder came to light when Ajaypal and his mother and KJ’s sister Yashpal Kaur came there with lunch. They found blood stains on the main door that was bolted from outside and the trail led to the room where KJ’s body was lying on the bed.

Sources said KJ’s family members were asked about the sequence of events leading to the murder, which is suspected to have taken place around 9pm on Friday.

His elder brother BP Singh was questioned about the details of the call that KJ reportedly made to him on Friday evening, in which he claimed to have spotted a suspicious person moving around his house between 4pm and 6pm. Although the kin claimed KJ had also made a call to the police control room about the presence of a miscreant, sources confirmed no such call was received.

CCTV footage yield no result

Sources said police also made inquiries in the neighbourhood about people who used to frequently visit KJ. After failing to find any substantial leads from the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from nearby houses, police have started scrutinising the footage from all cameras in the city to locate KJ’s car.

KJ’s Ford Ikon car besides mobile phones of both victims and an LCD television are missing after the incident. Police have also recovered the cover of a dagger from a nearby lawn.

Was a woman involved?

Mohali senior superintendent of police Kuldeep Singh Chahal said KJ Singh could have been using more than one mobile phone. KJ’s phone along with that of his mother has been missing after the crime. Police are also probing as to with whom he used to talk on phone frequently. “We have also found his two to three personal diaries,” said Chahal. Police are also looking into whether KJ, who had never married, was in touch with any woman.
