Pollution, inactive lifestyle cause cancer: experts

"So far, there is no proven scientific data about mobile phones causing cancer. The sedentary lifestyle and impure food are other reasons of increasing incidence of cancer," Goyal said.

Celebrating the completion of 46 years of the hospital on Sunday, Dr Shekhar Sinha, medical director of the hospital, said: "The hospital is providing best and cheapest treatment and medical expenditure is affordable for poor people too. Last year, four lakh outdoor patients were registered in the hospital and 43,000 were admitted to the hospital for treatment."

Radio therapy specialist Dr Arun Aggarwal said so far 15,000 operations had been carried out in the hospital and latest machines of international standards had been installed. The timely detection of cancer is curable and people should take every ailment seriously which prolongs more than three weeks at a stretch."

Dr Shashi Baliyan, another expert, said: "It is high time that the government should collaborate with the private institutes to fight cancer and other serious diseases. People should adopt healthy habits such as balanced diet, regular exercise and avoidance of intoxicants."
