The Ludhiana BJP has stated that the desecration of Guru Granth Sahib that has caused widespread resentment among masses was the handiwork of some miscreants who want to destabilise the situation in Punjab and flare up communal passions only to give a wrong impression of the SAD-BJP lead state government.

Praveen Bansal, president of the district BJP, said his party would not have been with the SAD if they were not sure that the volatile situation in Punjab was not due to the SAD. “We have full confidence in our alliance partner SAD and we stand by it during this time when opposition is making a political issue out of a sensitive matter,” said Bansal.

During the past sometime several incidents of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib had taken place in different areas of the state. The incidents started with desecration from Bath village in Tarn Taran that sparked an agitation. Later, similar incidents occurred at Ferozepur, Bathinda, Ludhiana and other areas.

The district BJP was so far silent except their appeal to the district administration that CCTVs should be installed in all religious institutions so that sacrilege of any holy book could be stopped and religious passions. The BJP had two days ago had also appealed to the people that peace should be maintained in the state.

Bansal said police has already arrested those who were involved in most of the crimes of sacrilege of the Guru Granth Sahib and now people should understand that “external forces” are behind all what happened during the past sometime in the state.

“It has been exposed that external agents were trying to destabilise Punjab. It is up to the masses of the state that they understand the game plan of those who want to take Punjab back to the era of 80s,” said Bansal.
