Just clowning around
Nothing Like Lear, a comic take on the Shakespearan original, to be staged in the city this weekend.
If you’re a fan of Shakespearean literature, this promises to be one interpretation to look forward to. Noted theatre person and director Rajat Kapoor will be presenting his play, titled Nothing Like Lear, which is a comic take on the Bard’s original, King Lear.
“The play is about King Lear, love and betrayal, fathers and daughters, forgiveness and many such emotions and relationships,” says actor Atul Kumar, who plays the clown in the play. He adds, “I’ve been clowning with Rajat for several years now. We had been thinking of putting this together, so once it materialised, I was more than willing to do the role.”
Centred around only one character, played alternately by Kumar and Vinay Pathak, the play aims to charm the audience with its novel presentation.
Ask Kumar about his expectations from the play and he replies, “Vinay and I are helping each other as far as our performance is concerned. Rajat is being kind and helping us both. But then again, what can one hope or expect before the play opens? Let’s wait and watch.”
Nothing Like Lear will be staged on February 11, 6 pm onwards at Prithvi Theatre, Juhu.
