“Police are investigating the case. So far, nobody has been arrested and no one has lodged a complaint,” the officer said.

The results of the elections held for 105 urban local bodies in Karnataka pointed to the resilience of the Congress-Janata Dal(Secular) alliance, which is currently in power in the state, although the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made clear inroads in the southern regions of the state.

The BJP is in the leading position in Bagalkote, Belagavi, Chamarajanagar, Chitradurga, Dakshina Kannada, Davangere and Udupi districts. Voters put the Congress in the saddle in Bellari, Bidar, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Mysuru, Raichur, Uttara Kannada, and Yadgir. The JD(S) is in the leading position in its traditional strongholds, including Hassan, Mandya and Tumkur.
