Bhadbhada dam opens two gates as rain pounds Bhopal

Two sluice gates of Bhadbhada dam were opened on Sunday to tackle water flow amidst continuous rainfall in Bhopal.

This is the second time in July when the gates were opened to release excess rainwater into Kaliasot reservoir. Mayor Alok Sharma and Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) council chairperson Surjeet Singh Chouhan were present at Bhadbhada when the water was released. BMC opened the gates when the water level of Upper Lake reached 1,666 feet.

The state meteorological department has also issued a warning of heavy rainfall in the state capital due to the presence of an upper air cyclonic system over east MP. Residents enjoyed a sunny day on Sunday afternoon but heavy rains lashed the city in the evening. A large number of people reached Bhadbhad bridge to see the flow of water.

Other parts of MP also witnessed rainfall. The meteorological department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall at Sehore, Indore, Bhopal, Dewas, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Ratlam, Ujjain, Shahjapur, Agar, Rajgarh, Mandsaur, Balaghat, Seoni, Mandla and Harda.

Officials say Sidhi district received the highest rainfall of 22mm on Sunday, followed by Indore (20 mm) and Gwalior (18 mm).
