Bhopal: GRP identifies gang that threw woman out of running train
The government railway police have claimed to have identified the gang that had allegedly thrown a 29-year-old woman out of a running train more than a month ago.
The government railway police (GRP) have claimed to have identified a gang that had allegedly thrown a 29-year-old woman out of a running train more than a month ago. The gang belongs to Jhansi district of Uttar Pradesh, the GRP said.
The woman was found unconscious on railway track near Karonda railway station in Sagar district on November 19. She was travelling in sleeper class of Malwa Express from Delhi to Ujjain.
According to GRP sources, five members of the gang had boarded in different coaches of the train from Lalitpur railway station. "We have identified all the five members. They would be nabbed within two to three days," said a senior GRP official on the condition of anonymity.
The officer said modus operandi of the gang is to target women passengers who travel alone. Once they fix their target, they would inform each other and rob the woman at a convenient place and time, and jump off the train after pulling emergency chain or when train is at a slow speed.
However, it is yet to be established whether the woman was thrown out by two miscreants or all five. "We had heard there were two people who threw her out of train. But, now we have credible information that all five were present in the train. We are yet to ascertain whether only two of them were present in the coach," the officer said.
The woman, who had slipped into coma after the incident, has recovered now. But, she is not able to speak. "She is out of coma but she could not recognise anybody. We have photographs of all the five miscreants. She is recovering fast and once she is able to recognise the people, we will show her the photographs," said another senior officer. Additional director general of GRP, MS Gupta, could not be contacted for comment.
