Thirty-year-old Nageena Bi, resident of Bagh Umraodullah, was nine months pregnant when she saw Dr Sudha Chourasia of Sultania Hospital along with her mother-in-law.
"Initially Dr Chourasia refused to treat my daughter-inlaw but after repeated requests, she agreed to our pleadings," said Aziz Qureshi, father-in-law of Nageena.
Dr Chourasia asked Nageena to undergo a sonography test. As advised, Nageena approached Dr Niti Rai's Ultrasound and Colour Doppler Centre.
The report said Nageena was pregnant with twins. Considering the intricacies involved in her case, Nageena was admitted immediately in the private ward of Sultania Hospital.
She was kept under observation for five days from July 27 to 30 but to everyonefs surprise the delivery got delayed and Nageena was discharged on August 1.
Dr Chourasia, then, asked Nageena to undergo another sonography test, now at Chawla Diagnostic Centre.
In the second sonography, she was reported pregnant with a single baby.
A piqued Qureshi sent a notice to Dr Niti Rai for misleading them with a wrong report about Nageena carrying twin babies.
The copy of this notice was also marked to station incharge, Jehangirabad police station.
"When I took Nageena again for check up to Dr Chourasia, she abused us and asked us that if we wish Nageena to be treated under her observation, we should withdraw complaint against Dr Rai," said Nageena's father-in-law.
After Dr Chourasia's refusal to treat Nageena, she was taken to a private hospital where she delivered a baby boy. Dr Chourasia, however, denied the charge.
Speaking to HT, Dr Chourasia said,"All the allegations against me are baseless. Qureshi is blackmailing us for financial benefits. In fact, they came at the last moment for the delivery of Nageena to us. She was having severe infection, which I treated and cured."
Dr Chourasia further said she never recommend Nageena to Dr Rai's lab for sonography.
Following delivery on August 15, Aziz is seeking justice for his daughter-in-law, complaining to the dean of Gandhi Medical College, Dr Nirbhay Shrivastava, as also the police against the doctor but without any result.
