Heavy showers disrupt life at many places in MP, no early respite expected

People in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday got a break from incessant rain lashing several parts of state for more than three days. In the state capital, the relief didn't last long as it again started raining heavily in the afternoon.

Meteorological department has issued warning of heavy rainfall in several parts of the state in next 48 hours.

Officials of Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhopal, have predicted that heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at isolated places in Ujjain division and Indore, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Dhar districts in next 48 hours.

Warning of heavy rainfall has been also issued for Rajgarh, Guna, Sehore, Shivpuri, Barwani, Khargone, Ashoknagar districts.

MeT office has also released alert for districts like Jhabua, Alirajpur, Sehore, Dewas, Shajapur, Rajgarh, Ujjain, Mandsaur, Ratlam and Agar. District administrations of all the districts have been asked to remain alert to handle flood situations in their respective districts.

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall in the state for past three to four days has badly disrupted life. Flood situation is prevailing over Ratlam, Mandsaur and other districts of Malwa area.

Rivers and streams are in spate and many low-lying areas of the districts have been partially submerged in water. People are still marooned at many villages in the state.

Rescue operations are going on. Kali Sindh River in Agar district is in spate due to which several villages have cut off. Similarly, Kshipra river in Ujjain and Dudhi river in Rajgarh district are flowing above the danger mark.

Many small bridges connecting towns and villages have been damaged due to heavy rainfall affecting traffic badly.

According to officials of Regional Meteorological Centre similar conditions will prevail over the state till Tuesday. MeT office has also released warning for heavy rainfall in Bhopal in next 48 hours in isolated places. Rainfall recorded in Bhopal on Sunday remained 6.6 mm. According to MeT office, Bhopal has recorded 61% more rainfall than normal till the date. Total rainfall recorded in Bhopal since June 1 is 622mm.
