Seeking to downplay the Madhya Pradesh government's decision to order a judicial probe into the incident, Digvijaya said "nothing much should be read into it".

The 30-year-old IPS officer was allegedly mowed down yesterday by a suspected mining mafia member at Banmore in Morena district when he tried stopping a tractor-trolley carrying stones.

"If Madhya Pradesh government is so serious about inquiring into illegal mining, (then) it should order a probe into all instances of illegal quarrying spanning last 18 years," Digvijaya said, adding the eighteen years include ten years when he was chief minister and eight years of BJP rule since 2003.

Meanwhile, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan refused to offer any comment saying he did not consider Digvijaya a "trustworthy" man.
