The Satai Nagar Panchayat organised the ceremony at Satai town on Wednesday. A Chhatarpur-based NGO, the Divyang United Organisation was the co-host of the event.

Around 325 couples, including some physically challenged persons, tied nuptial knots at the ceremony. Among them there were many couples who got married for the second time. Many of them have even children.

After the ‘irregularity’ came to light, the government ordered inquires.

State minister for women and child development Lalita Yadav, who hails from Chhatarpur, told HT that she has directed the district collector Ramesh Bhandari to conduct an inquiry into the matter and take strict action against anyone found guilty.

Minister for rural development and social justice Gopal Bhargav told HT that after he learnt about the incident, he directed the principal secretary of the department to probe the incident and take action accordingly.

Chhatarpur residents Brijkishore Kushwaha and Malti were seen with their daughter Babli after their marriage ceremony exposing the chink in the state government’s scheme

Brijkishore claim he was persuaded by the Divyang United Organisation to take part at the ceremony.

Gorakhpur village resident Rajjo was seen breastfeeding her child after the event. Her husband Babulal said, “We are poor people. Local villager Sudama lured us to get married again”.

Brajesh Ahirwar and his wife Sulekha were seen sitting in a taxi with their child. Brajesh too claimed a local villager convinced him to take part at the ceremony.

A groom’s father claimed that a middle-aged man persuaded him to let his son and daughter-in-law tie the nuptial knot again to claim financial aid and gifts from the government. In return, he said, the man claimed a commission of Rs 10,000.

Bijawar BJP MLA Pushpendra Nath Pathak was also present at the programme as Satai falls under his assembly constituency.
