Levelling serious allegations against chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's brother-in-law Sanjay Singh, Congress has alleged that the CM's kin helped prime accused in the infamous Chandori sex scandal.

Congress spokesperson KK Mishra said that Sanjay Singh misused the government machinery to make Manoj Nema, the main accused in the sex scandal, an approver for the prosecution.

The sex scandal was busted in Balaghat district in May 2012. Mishra said the then city superintendent of police Praveen Bhuria had called Manoj Nema for investigation and had issued three notices, but he didn't turn up.

“Sanjay Singh used all his powers and pressurised the police to make him (Nema) approver for the prosecution,” Mishra said.

"I know now media would ask me to establish that Sanjay Singh and Manoj Nema were friends. Let me tell you that Nema, who is a builder, sold 3,510 square feet of garden land of Govind Manglam Colony for mere Rs 4.25 lakh. The current rate of that land is about Rs 80 lakhs," said Mishra, who also provided papers of the land registry to media persons.

Singh has also evaded stamp duty for which FIR should be registered against him, Mishra added.

"They (the state government) may deny that Sanjay Singh is a relative of the CM. The documents of land registry provided to you clearly mention that Sanjay Singh is son of Ghanshyam Singh Masani," said Mishra.

The Congress spokesperson demanded a CBI inquiry into the Chandori sex scandal, besides relations between Sanjay Singh and Manoj Nema. He also demanded an inquiry into the allotment of manganese mines in Balaghat district.

The state government spokesperson, Narottam Mishra denied all the allegations levelled by the Congress spokesperson and said that “all the allegations are baseless and false”.

"Mishra had levelled allegations earlier also, but they didn't stand in the courts. Congress is simply trying to malign the image of CM unsuccessfully," said the government spokesperson.

Sanjay Singh to file defamation against Mishra

Sanjay Singh has said that he would file a defamation suit against congress spokesperson KK Mishra for baseless and false allegations.

“Mishra's allegation are completely baseless and false. I bought the land in 2010 and the sex scandal he is talking about occurred in 2012- there is no connection between the two. I would file a defamation case against him,” said Sanjay Singh, talking to HT over phone.

He clarified that he had bought the said land according to norms and have paid according to prevalent collector rates. The stamp duty has also been paid according to collector rate. There is no question of any stamp duty evasion, Singh said.

Clarifying his relations with Manoj Nema, he said that he was the seller and I was a buyer, there is nothing beyond it. “He had sold land and houses to several people, does it make him friends of all the buyers,” asked Singh.

He said he doesn't know Manoj more than that. Moreover, the said sex racket occurred much later and had nothing to do with him. Police had done its investigation and that he had nothing to do with it.
