Rs 15,000 crore aid provided to farmers in two years: Govt

The MP government on Sunday claimed to have provided Rs 15,000 crore assistance to farmers in the state under various schemes during the last two years.

According to an official release, relief was given to farmers for natural calamities, crop insurance compensation, bonus on procurement of wheat and paddy on support price, subsidy on loans at zero percent interest rate, power subsidy and subsidy on agriculture implements.

In most cases, assistance amounts were deposited in the farmers’ bank accounts.

During 2012-13, 2013-14 and early months of 2014-15, assistance worth Rs 32,136.06 crore was provided to farmers and people against losses to crops due to frost and floods/excess rains.

According to the release, 18,54,858 natural calamity-affected farmers were provided crop insurance amount worth over Rs 2,579 crore during 2012 and 2013. Besides, distribution of Rs 437 crore crop insurance amount is underway to farmers affected in Rabi 2013.

Of the total amount, farmers in the state were given bonus worth Rs 856.75 crore on the procurement of wheat and paddy on the support price during 2012-13.

The release claims power subsidy worth about Rs 4,684 crore was given to farmers during the last two years to relieve them from the burden of enhanced power tariff and supply of free power to weaker sections.

The release further says in the state, loans were being provided to farmers at zero percent interest rate for agriculture work.

About Rs 404 crore was given to 27,18,000 farmers during 2012-13 and Rs 494 crore to about 28 lakh farmers in 2013-14.
