The body of the man who was a known drug addict has been sent for autopsy and the matter lodged under Section 174 of CrPc by police, Rampur Baghelan police station in charge Animesh Dwivedi told Hindustan Times.

The deceased has, meanwhile, been booked under Sections 457 and 380 of IPC for housebreak and theft.

“We got information from villagers about some robbers being seen in the bank branch located on the ground floor of the double-storey building in Bela village at around 2.40 am,” said Dwivedi.

A Rampur Baghelan police team rushed to the spot at around 3 am, where it was told by villagers that a man who could be seen searching something inside the bank branch is now hanging through the ceiling fan.

“On the spot investigations revealed that the shuttered gate of the bank was cut using an electric cutter to make way inside. Suspecting that more than one robbers could be inside the bank with some weapons we waited till around 5 pm to enter the bank when more police force and forensic experts reached the spot,” said Dwivedi.

But once inside the bank, the police spotted that the man was hanging to death through the ceiling fan. With the help of villagers, he was identified as Dharmendra alias Lallan, a native of Bela village only.

“Investigations based on questioning of Dharmendra’s kin and villagers revealed that the youngster was a drug addict, who particularly consumed cough syrups. His name had come up in the past in some small thefts, but was never booked in any case,” said Dwivedi.

The Rampur Baghelan police station in-charge added that its suspected that seeing police and villagers surround the bank and subsequent action against him Dharmendra committed suicide. “We’re also investigating if there were more than one person inside the bank,” said Dwivedi.
