As he starts shooting for father Boney Kapoor's Tevar, we talk to Arjun Kapoor about his equation with his dad (who married Sridevi), how he’s at peace with it, and his relationship with his sister Anshula.

He is only three films old, but

is already being counted among the next big stars.

For the first time, he has teamed up with his producer-father

for their next home production.

As he starts shooting for the film, we talk to Arjun about his equation with his dad (who married Sridevi), how he’s at peace with it, and his relationship with his sister Anshula.

With your mother not around anymore, how has the equation with your father been? Is he more concerned now?
He has always been concerned. Now, he feels a bigger sense of responsibility towards both of us because he knows that it’s good to have a parent around. He has never tried to be overbearing as a parent, saying, "I will be both your mother and father."

He knows what we have lost, and has been respectful to let us deal with it in our own way. It’s difficult to be separated and still understand your children, but he tries his best to do that.

Did your equation with your father change when he decided to marry ?
I was very young then, but I never stopped loving him. I never felt any other emotion for him. Maybe I was confused at that time, but as time progressed, I got clarity. The older you grow, the more you realise things. He made a choice and he must have weighed the pros and cons before taking his decision. I can keep dwelling on it and get upset and depressed, or I can move on and hope that he is happy.

But it must have been tough.
Yes, it was difficult. But who said life was easy? If we hadn’t moved on from that, we wouldn’t be working together. Whatever happens, happens for a reason.

Are you at peace with all of that now?
If he is at peace, so am I. I’d love to have had a father who is around me 24x7. But that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been a . He has provided me with whatever I wanted; even more than what I wanted. It would have been easier for me to answer all this if my mother was around, but now it’s more painful when I answer these questions. I still love him a lot. If he is happy, I am happy.

You are working with your father in Tevar, a film that he is producing. Is that special for you?
I am the happiest person in the world. Working with him has also calmed me down. Also, I am happy because I see my father on the sets every day. There is no pressure on him to launch me now. He is not making this film to support me. He is making a film with an actor who suits the role.

Do you feel more responsible towards Anshula now?
I am so busy with work that I barely get time to meet her. We live in the same house, but I feel bad because I barely get time to check up on her.
