First Salman Khan and then Sanjay Dutt were planning to launch you, but things did not work out. Why?
Well Salman Bhai was never launching me. Sanju sir and Ashtavinayak were doing Satte pe Satta, but the project didn’t take off. So, Shootout at Wadala (SAW) is my first film.

Is Shootout At Wadala the perfect launch vehicle, keeping in mind the multi-star cast. Is there a fear of getting overshadowed?
I saw myself playing almost all the bad guys from Shootout At Lokhandwala, when I heard Sanjay Gupta sir is doing Shootout at Wadala. I rushed to his house and told him I want to be a part of it. He took me on board after meeting me a few times. Of course, it’s a great first film to be in, with such a huge cast. The whole set up is outstanding.

Did your father Shakti Kapoor’s alleged tiff with Salman created differences between you and the Dabangg star? Would you have preferred having Salman as your godfather in the industry?
My relations with Salman Bhai and his family are very good. I have immense respect for everybody in their family. I don’t need a godfather.

When did you decide to be an actor and jump into Bollywood?
It was always on my mind, coming from such a ‘filmy’ background. As time passed, I assisted Priyadarshan sir for 2 years, went to Lee Strasberg and the New York Film Academy, had all the experiences and realised that I’m born to act.

Good looks or talent, what works better in Bollywood?
Talent.

Did you accompany you father to shoots or used his contacts to get here?
I did accompany him for shoots, but I got my first two films myself, not through anybody.

Did the police detain you at a rave party, which was busted at Juhu in 2008?
Yes, I was at that party, but wasn’t detained by the police, as my tests were negative.

As you are debuting with a negative role, do we see you becoming the quintessential bad boy of Bollywood?
I would do any role that excites me, with shades of grey, black, blue, white, orange, any. I wouldn’t try and fit into roles which aren’t meant for me.

How did you deal with your father Shakti Kapoor’s casting couch controversy?
