Ask him about the risk of doing too many supporting roles, Varun says, “Not really. I know looking at my career graph, one would feel that I have only acted in films with ensemble cast but I feel each of my character has been meaty. They’ve been appreciated and liked by the audience. I also like being in that fun space and playing happy characters. So I don’t have any such fear of getting sidelined or stuck in a particular genre or category.”

The 26-year-old actor who is currently shooting in Delhi for his next film says it’s the content that matters to him. “As an actor, I need to be sure how the script will shape up my character on screen. I don’t expect or think of a film based on the length of the role that I’m being offered,” he says.

Varun says if given a chance he’d love to be part of a biopic on cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s life. “I am a huge admirer of him and we have a Punjabi connect too,” he adds.

Varun who has worked with filmmakers such as Abbas Mustan and Rohit Shetty, says there’s no dream director as such on his list, though he’s smitten by SRK’s charm. “As a kid, SRK has been my mentor and inspiration. So if I have to pick someone, I would love to work with him again and again.”
