Once, Bollywood’s most popular comedy and character artiste-cum-dialogue writer, actor Kader Khan, who made a comeback to acting with Hi Padosi… Kaun Hai Doshi on Sahara One, will be scripting and directing a comic satire, which goes on floors this year.

“I haven’t locked the cast or the script for that matter. But I will flag off the project within this year. As of now, I can just tell you that it will be a satirical comedy,” he says with a smile. “I liked Tere Bin Laden as an attempt. But the message it was trying to send out, felt weak. It could’ve been way stronger had I made that film.”

Khan decided to make his small screen debut as a foolish landowner Ram Bharose in the aforementioned daily soap because he liked the team that approached him for the part. “They seemed like a good bunch. Sahara as a group always takes a path seldom chosen. So, it’s always a pleasure to work with a group like that,” he says.

“Otherwise I’d lost interest in work completely. Most of the directors I’ve worked with in the glorious years of my career have passed away or are inching towards that. And not everyone’s work impresses me today,” sighs the actor who feels that everyone attempts comedy thinking it is cakewalk. “I loved the comic timings of all the artistes in Jab We Met. It wasn’t supposed to be a comedy film but the way humour has been woven into the story is commendable.”

News is that the actor’s younger son will also be launching his movie towards the end of February-early March. “As a father, he will always have my support and blessings. It’s his concept and treatment. I’m just keeping my toes and fingers crossed for him,” smiles Khan, admitting that his older son Sarfaraz is still awaiting his big break. “Inshallah! Even that will happen soon.”

As of now, Khan is helping his current show’s scriptwriter to get punch lines right. “I think every actor who has some sense of comedy must help the writer because that’s how a team is formed,” he asserts. “But sadly, today there aren’t so many writers who’d want inputs from veterans.”
