Lara Dutta set to return with Vinay Pathak in Chalo Dilli sequel
Back from a long maternity break, the actor is now confirmed to star in the sequel to her first home production with Vinay Pathak. Pathak confirms this development, saying “Yes, Lara and I will be back together. We are planning the sequel and the script is being written as we speak. So, the shoot will start soon.”
Ever since she became a mother in 2012, Lara Dutta has stayed away from the arc lights (except for a small role in Bejoy Nambiar’s David earlier this year). But now, we can confirm that the actor is all set to make a comeback with her second venture, titled Chalo China, a sequel to her 2011 hit, Chalo Dilli, with Vinay Pathak.
The latter was Lara’s first film under her banner, Bheegi Basanti Productions. “Although Lara has been away, she is excited about the sequel. It was always on their (her and Mahesh Bhupathi, her husband and partner in the production house) mind. And now that her daughter Saira is over a year old, Lara feels that she can slowly look into her professional life too. Right now, the script is being readied,” says an insider close to the actor.
When contacted, Pathak confirms this development, saying “Yes, Lara and I will be back together. We are planning the sequel and the script is being written as we speak. So, the shoot will start soon.”
Although Lara is yet to go on record, Shashant Shah, who directed the original, is unlikely to helm part two. Instead, Shashanka Ghosh, who is known for films like Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II (2003) and Quick Gun Murugan (2009), might direct the second film.
In all likelihood, the film will go on the floors later this year. Other than this, Lara is yet to sign any other project.
