‘Likh ke dijiye’: India’s official Oscar entry Newton has Twitter in splits

Two dialogues from Rajkummar Rao-starrer Newton caught the fancy of social media, and in no time the meme machinery has set its wheels into motion.

Rajummar Rao-starrer Newton is in the news for more reason than one. The political satire has not only won acclaim on the festival circuit, it has been chosen as India’s entry in the foreign language category at the 90th Academy Awards over entries like Aamir Khan’s Dangal and Mukti Bhavan.

And now, two dialogues from the film caught the fancy of social media, and in no time the meme machinery has set its wheels into motion.

The scene, which was also a part of the movie trailer, shows Pankaj Tripathi challenging Rajkummar Rao by saying nobody would turn up at the polling booth. “Main likh ke deta hun, koi nahi aayega (I will give it to you in writing, nobody will show up),” he says.

Here are the wittiest ways in which Twitterati has given the dialogue a hilarious twist.

This is not the only scene from the movie Newton that has been spun into a meme. Rajkummar Rao aka Newton’s reply has become a meme too.

The film, directed by Amit Masurkar, starring Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Raghubir Yadav and Anjali Patil, tells the story of an election official in charge of a polling station in a conflict-ridden region in the eastern state of Chhattisgarh.
