Mewar Rajputana will be proud of my film: Sanjay Leela Bhansali assures attackers on Padmavati
Sanjay Leela Bhansali has clarified to the Rajput associations that there is no “romantic dream sequence or anything objectionable” between Rani Padmavati and Allauddin Khilji in the movie that stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles.
Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who was recently in news for the attacks on the sets of his next, Padmavati, seems to have reached truce with the dissenting factions. In a letter that surfaced on Twitter Monday, the filmmaker has clarified to the Rajput associations that there is no “romantic dream sequence or anything objectionable” between Rani Padmavati and Allauddin Khilji in the movie that stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles.
Rajput Karni Sena workers created a ruckus and vandalised the sets of Bhansali’s Padmavati in Jaipur in January. The filmmaker was also slapped by the attackers. The protesters manhandled the ace director and alleged that the film has love scenes between Queen Padmini and ruler Alauddin Khilji, played by actors Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. The Karni Sena claims that Padmini was a proud queen who took her own life rather than submit to Alauddin Khilji, the emperor who attacked the Chittorgarh Fort.
In his letter addressed to “all social organisations headquartered at Shree Rajput Sabha, Bhansali wrote, “As discussed with you, this is to specifically clarify that there is no romantic dream sequence or any objectionable/romantic scene between Rani Padmavati and Allauddin Khilji. We have been carefully researching and making the film. We are confident that Mewar Rajputana will be proud of the film made on their revered queen. We do not want to hurt any sentiments and would appreciate if all the social organisations and local people support us in making this film and making their queen revered by the world.”

“Request you to please ensure that moving forward there is no untoward action against our production, crew and cast in lieu of the said issue from members of your association and other Rajput associations. We look forward to your co-operation,” Bhansali added in the letter.
Speaking to Bombay Times, the filmmaker said, “My team and I have met with some of the Rajput leaders, who, upon receipt of our clarification, have agreed to support us and have also signed our letter and promised cooperation in support of the making of the film. I hope this puts to rest all the misconceptions regarding the film. I take this opportunity to thank the film fraternity and the media, who have constantly spoken in support of the film and protested against any kind of violence/vandalism against artists and their freedom to express.”

Padmavati tells the story of Alauddin Khilji, the medieval-era Delhi ruler, who was infatuated with Rajput queen Padmavati.
