In a new video that Disha Patani has shared, director Ali Abbas Zafar reveals why he made Salman Khan a circus stuntman in his new film, Bharat.

Filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar’s upcoming film Bharat shows the life of a person named Bharat — essayed by actor Salman Khan — across a span of 60 years with the actor playing a circus artiste in the younger part of the role. Actor Disha Patani, who joins him as a trapeze artist during this period, has shared a new video that reveals the reason why the makers decided on making Salman a stuntman in a circus.

The video opens with a clip from the film’s trailer where Salman says “waqt tha 1964 ka, aur daur tha Russian circus ka” and then moves to Zafar who talks about the initiation of circus in his film and says, “I think the circus has changed drastically from the time that we were trying to recreate it.”

Writer Varun joins in and says, “We had set this part of the story in the 60s and that was the time when circus was the main source of entertainment. So, somewhere, what was happening back then and whatever I remember from my childhood, gave birth to the whole idea of Salman being a stuntman in a circus.”

The video then takes us through the details of how the sets were prepared — with the help of 120 circus artists gathered from across the world. The video ends with comedian-turned-actor Sunil Grover showering praise for the entire setup. “I have never seen such a beautiful circus, it should revive after Bharat. It should be back,” he says.

Talking about her preparations for the film, Disha had earlier said, “I remember breaking my knee while rehearsing. I was also practising gymnastics simultaneously. You must have seen the front flip and other stunts in the song. I was actually over training and broke my knee a week prior to the shoot,” she said. “I couldn’t walk and was literally on the bed before the shoot started. It was really hard for me. After every take, I had to use a cold press, which hurt a lot. But I am happy to see the result and feel that everything was worth it.”

An official remake of Korean drama An Ode to my Father, Bharat is set to hit theatres on Eid 2019 (June 5). Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the film also stars Katrina Kaif, Jackie Shroff, Sunil Grover and Nora Fatehi.
