Spanish mayor, locals in Bollywood song
No extras used to shoot Senorita... video for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and instead, g mayor Carmen Osorno of the Spanish town Alajar was invited, apart from some locals, to shake a leg with her lead actors.
For eons, singing and dancing with extras dressed in vibrant costumes in the background, has been an integral part of Bollywood. But Zoya Akhtar decided to do away with convention for the song Senorita… from her forthcoming film, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD). The director refused to use extras in the video, and instead, got mayor Carmen Osorno of the Spanish town Alajar, apart from some locals, to shake a leg with her lead actors.
Most of the film has been shot in Spain, which is where three friends played by Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abay Deol, go on a road trip. Since Indian extras would look out of place in the outdoor spell, Zoya featured residents from the shooting location itself. mayor Carmen too was glad to be part of Senorita…, which has been sung by the three actors themselves. “Zoya was keen to feature the mayor in the song,” says producer Ritesh Sidhwani, adding that the locals probably had no idea what was coming their way. “Usually the town winds up by 8 pm, but when we rehearsed for four nights and then shot for five, it was like a carnival. Since the song has been composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy with the Spanish flavour, it was essential to treat it accordingly. So the locals dancing with Hrithik, Farhan and Abhay add to that authenticity.”
