When Annu Kapoor felt cheated and reduced to a junior artist in a film
Actor Annu Kapoor, who has a three decade-long career in the film industry, shares a recent incident that left him feeling betrayed.
Actor Annu Kapoor is a prominent name in Bollywood. Over the years, he has left a mark in the mind of cinema-goers with his performances — be it Mr Gaitonde in Mr India (1987), Dr Chaddha in Vicky Donor (2012), or Advocate Pramod Mathur in Jolly LLB 2 (2017).
However, what also catches our attention is how he has majorly done supporting roles. Does being tagged as a character actor bother him? Annu points out that it’s not just this; there are several other things that he has faced in the industry.

“There are a lot of problems in one’s life, so many pangs; how much can one tell? But let me share a bigger problem that I had faced recently. What happened was, a filmmaker signed me for a particular character, but then it turned out to be something else later,” he says.
Not ready to reveal details, the actor adds, “I felt cheated by the writer and director. They reduced me to a junior artist! I didn’t back out of the film, but I did ask for a meeting with the producers, director, and writers. I didn’t have any complaints with the producer though. A couple of days before this, when I had read the script, I had sent a message to the writers: ‘Your script is unimpressive and pretentious’. I didn’t get any answer [even then]. I felt betrayed.”
Moving on, Annu shares that having completed three decades in the industry, new releases do not excite him any more. “At my age, I am no longer excited about anything. If I get too excited, I’ll get a heart attack! There are young guys who go around saying ‘I’m very, very excited [for my new film]; woh zara si baat pe excited ho jaate hain. Baad mein pata chalta hai the film had no content, and it flops at the box office,” he says.
