Another book in the wall
As part of the Aviva Great Wall of Education, an initiative presented by Hindustan Times, students from 200 schools across the city are donating books for the education of the underprivileged.
As part of the Aviva Great Wall of Education, an initiative presented by Hindustan Times, students from 200 schools across the city are donating books for the education of the underprivileged.
Says Manju Borkar, principal of Billabong High International School, Malad (W), “It’s a very noble deed, by means of which we are getting an opportunity to pioneer the education of all these children. Our students have been very supportive.” Students of St. Gregorios High School, Chembur, have also donated books eagerly. “I made an announcement during the assembly, and the box is already full,” says principal Ranjini Krishnaswamy. “Books are something that I believe must be shared.”
All books donated during the drive will be used to form the great bookwall of education, tobe displayed in the city. At the end of the drive, the books will be segregated into categories and distributed among NGOs such as Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Save the Children India. Students can donate even used notebooks, which will be recycled into fresh notebooks.
“This drive sensitises children to the needs of others. We believe that the true art of living is in the art of giving,” says principal Grace Mathias of Queen Mary School, Girgaum. “If destiny has given us these opportunities, we must give back to society for what we have received from God.”
