Music is my passion, says Sourav Roy

Sourav arranged the music for all the songs for the film Banjo and he also did the background score for the film. Then he got to work for the sensational hit Kabir Singh for Amaal Mallik.

Music producer and composer Sourav Roy who has been in the music field since childhood with a vast experience as a musician, music arranger and music producer talks about his experiences in the music field. He says that his father was a tabla player and mother was a classical singer who was a gold medalist in Ravindra Sangeet and both his parents were his first gurus in music. While he was in Grade 7 in school, he learnt playing the Piano and melody arrangements from his Guruji Deepak Roy.

Sourav very proudly says that music for him was like food which we need every day and he was immersed in the music world throughout day and night. While he was graduating his father told him he was not meant for doing any job and should pursue a career in music. Sourav started learning music arrangement and did many live shows in Kolkata. He wanted to do better work and shifted to Mumbai .He met the popular composer Amit Trivedi and arranged the music for the hit number London Thumakda .Later he also arranged music for Pritam in another hit number Hawayein for the film Jab Harry Met Sejal. He also won the GIMA Award for the song London Thumakda in 2015.

Many people recognised his work and among those were Vishal Shekhar. Sourav arranged the music for all the songs for the film Banjo and he also did the background score for the film. Then he got to work for the sensational hit Kabir Singh for Amaal Mallik .How did Sourav gain his experience as a musician?. Sourav says that education in music is the most important thing initially which makes roughly for 30 percent knowledge in music,20 percent self taught and 25 percent from the music we hear while the rest is from the people who show various likes for the genres in music. Also for five minutes every day we can sit alone and think about composing a new tune which is like independent music. singers like Alisha Chinai,Bali Sagoo and Baba Sehgal have done lots in the field of independent music in the past. Audience today have become versatile and are appreciating all types of music.

Musical taste has to be developed . The youth mainly are big lovers of music and one of his compositions Khushi Se Khudkhushi has proved the versatility in Sourav Roy’s style as a composer. Sourav says he is very happy with whatever he has done in music field and will continue to enthral the lovers of music with his new productions and compositions and in future.
