For a 20-year-old, Bangalore-based Abhishek R isn’t doing too badly. Armed with a first-hand experience of running a company, he has trained IIM-B graduates, and is about two months away from launching Customs Garage, a customised car makeover firm.

Abhishek says his first major high was training IIM-B in soft skills like team building, creativity and leadership. “That’s when I realised the number of avenues I could explore,” says the second year mechanical engineering student at MSRIT (MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology).

So how did ‘Customs Garage’ happen? “We are huge fans of Pimp my ride, the car makeover show on VH1. The idea took off from there, and we thought of doing something classy with it. Plus, there’s a huge demand from the kids here; we are talking exclusive body kits, interior modification, anything except the performance,” he says. The land and the requisite funds are already in place and the idea is to offer the services to a list of ‘exclusive’ clients, to make it work.

* But with hectic business planning, balancing studies can be a tightrope walk. Abhishek has already had to drop a year, but says he doesn’t really care, having even considered dropping out of the course. “One of us is actually doing that for the company, the rest would be joining him after classes,” he says.
