NMDC and SVAI sign turnkey agreement
NMDC Limited signed the contract agreement with the consortium comprising M/s. SVAI, Austria, SVAI India and M/s. Nagarjuna Construction Company for turnkey execution of a 460m2 sinter plant complex.

This is the first contract amongst the nine main technological packages for the 3.0 MT Integrated Steel Plant at Nagarnar. N.K. Nanda, Director (Technical) on behalf of NMDC, Dieter Siuka, Senior Vice-President, SVAI, Austria, Ashok Pan, MD&CEO, SVAI, India and V.S. Rao, GM, Nagarjuna Construction Company signed on behalf of the consortium in presence of Mr. Rana Som, CMD, NMDC.
The sinter plant being erected will cater to 80% of the ferrous feed to the blast furnace and will be of state-of-art design. The schedule of the project is 33 months from effective date of contract.
Sinter is the prepared feed made out of iron ore fines which otherwise cannot be used. Use of sinter in blast furnace not only save in coke rate and increases production but also is a means to use iron ore fines generated in mining process. Rana Som, CMD, NMDC at the outset informed that this would be the fastest commissioned steel plant either in green field or brown field in the country. He also emphasised that NMDC being a responsible corporate citizen has ensured that due importance is given to the local community.
