No explosion in genuine batteries: Nokia
Nokia dismisses allegations of explosions in its batteries saying that genuine products were not being used by people who had reported such incidents.
Mobile handsets maker Nokia on Friday dismissed allegations of explosions in its batteries saying that genuine products were not being used by people who had reported such incidents.
"We have probed every incident associated with BL-5C batteries supplied with Nokia phones in India. Either the products were tampered with, or duplicate products were being used in every case thus reported," Nokia India Product Head (mobile phones) Raghuvansh Sarup said in Bhopal.
"No case of explosion in batteries has been confirmed yet," he said, adding that during internal tests the company had found that about 10 of the 4.5 crore BL-5C batteries got overheated after 250-300 recharges, following which the global advisory was issued.
Unlike the earlier generation nickel batteries, the lithium-ion batteries have extremely refined ingredients, which ensure versatility and safety, company sources said.
Li-ion batteries carry a printed circuit board which gives them "their own intelligence" to prevent overcharge and undercharge, they said.
The maximum number for which a battery could be charged decreases gradually due to ageing and the product should be replaced once its back up falls below 50 per cent, the sources said.
Sarup was in Bhopal to introduce three new Nokia models - 7500 Prism, Nokia 2630 and Nokia 2505.
