The Maharashtra State Board of Wakfs is about to issue a notice to the firm that Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani purchased at Altamount Road to build a house.
"The board will send a notice to Antilia Commercial Private Limited, asking it to explain why the property should not be restored to the board," said AR Sheikh, chief executive officer (CEO) of the Wakf Board. "The law says they have to be given a chance to explain their side."
The board usually gives respondents two weeks to file a reply.
The state government on Tuesday instructed the board CEO to conduct hearings with parties involved in five Wakf transactions across the state and examine whether these were legal.
The sale of the 4,532-sqm property that is to be Ambani's new address, by Currimbhoy Ebrahim Khoja Orphanage to Antilia Commercial Private Limited in 2002, is among these five transactions.
