10,000 take Class 12 English exam

More than 10,000 students of Class 12 took the first exam of English on Saturday across the tricity on Saturday. Class 10 exams will begin from Monday with the Mathematics exam.

CBSE regional director RJ Khanderao said that board had set up 45 centres in the tricity for both these board classes.

"All precautions were put in place for the exams. There was no problem and the proceedings went smoothly," he said.

However, some students claimed that the exam was not of equal difficulty level across sets with Set C apparently lengthier than Sets A and B.

CBSE counsellor and principal of DAV-15, Rakesh Sachdeva said: "Exams began well today. Students must gear up and pay their full attention towards exams now. The whole attention should be on studies now," she said.

A Class-12 non-medical student Akansha said that she was tense before the exam, but she attempted it well.

Students of Class 12 take the History exam on March 4. Papers of physics and vocational subjects, have been scheduled for March 5. Commerce students will appear for business studies paper on March 6.

Class 9 exams conducted by the URT education department also started on Tuesday with the Sanskrit exam. Class 11 exams begin with the English exam on March 4.

An official claimed that that the department was working hard to ensure that there were no mistakes in the exam as last year the exam reportedly had 50 mistakes. "To avoid this, the department is maintaining very cautious approach," said a official.

17-year-old ends life due to exam stress
SAS Nagar: A Class-12 student reportedly allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a ceiling fan on Saturday morning at Dera Bassi in SAS Nagar. Ashiq Sharma, 17, who originally belonged to Nepal, and presently resided with his family at Kuranwala village in SAS Nagar, was a student of Lord Mahavir Public School at Derabassi, the police said. Officials claimed that the student was tense due to the exams.
Inquest proceedings have been initiated and the body has been shifted to the civil hospital mortuary for a post-mortem. A case has been registered under Section 174 of the CrPC. It is the fourth case of suicide in Dera Bassi in the last two days.
