The elected members of the Punjab Medical Council (PMC) got a stay on the orders of the Punjab government that had declared the PMC elections held in 2011 null and void.
The government had cancelled the membership of 10 elected members after an inquiry on December 12. The members then approached the Punjab and Haryana high court where, in the case of Dr OPS Kande and others vs state of Punjab and others, justice K Kannan issued a notice of motion till March 31, 2015, and an interim stay on the operation of impugned orders.
Petitioner Dr OPS Kande said: "Even though partial, this is our victory. Hopefully, in the next hearing on March 31, we will prove that the elected members are not at fault and our membership cannot be cancelled."
Dr BC Bhatia from Gurdaspur, a member of the PMC said, "There were no allegations against the elected members. Questions were raised on the election process. The inquiry report also did not find anything against the elected members. Then why did the government take action against us and cancel our membership?"
