50 shortlisted as 'elected' delegates for NRI meet
The Punjab government on Wednesday announced that it has shortlisted 50 delegates as the 'elected representatives' from different countries for the NRI Sammelan being held on January 4 and 5 in Chandigarh and Jalandhar respectively.

"All preparations have been completed for this mega event with a view to resolve the grievances of Punjabi Diaspora," Punjab NRI affairs minister Bikram Singh Majithia here said, while releasing the list of the participants.
"An open discussion would be held to resolve the complaints pertaining to NRIs and special cooperation from Punjabi Diaspora would also be sought to put Punjab on the fast track of development on the pattern of developed countries," the minister said.
The 50 elected representatives include sitting and former MPs, MLAs, mayors and councilors, he said.
More than 45 renowned journalists from various countries have already reached to participate in the NRI Sammelan, he added.
They included Tim Uppal, Manmeet Bhullar and Param Gill, Gurmant Grewal, Darshan Kang and Peter Sandhu, all from Canada, Uganda MP Parminder Singh, New Zealand MP K S Bakshi, MPs Lord Raj Loomba and Lord Diljit Rana, Mayor Darshan Singh Grewal and Pritan Singh Grewal, councilors Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, KC Mohan and Sachin Gupta and Judge Ajit Singh Atwal, all from UK and Ruby Dhillon, a mayor from the US.
Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal would chair a brainstorming session with these elected representatives, to be followed by a power point presentation on Progressive Punjab by deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal, the minister said.
The interactive session would be on New Era New dreams Vision of NRI Punjabi for Punjab.
The sammelan would conclude on January 5 at Jalandhar, where the chief minister and the deputy chief mnister would interact with the NRIs, the elected representatives and the NRI media fraternity in an open session of discussion.
