It was an evening that mightn't have come to an end, for the audience kept asking for more and singer Nitin Mukesh kept them in good humour at the Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan in Ludhiana on Saturday evening, where a musical concert had been organised by the Nehru Sidhant Kender Trust in memory of noted Urdu poet, Hindi lyricist and a writer Sahir Ludhianvi on his 93rd birth anniversary.

Son of legendary Hindi film playback singer Mukesh, Nitin Mukesh began the event with a song made evergreen by his father's voice, Jeena Yahaan, Marna Yahaan… from the film Mera Naam Joker (1970). Dressed in a traditional kurta pyjama with a shawl wrapped over his shoulders, Nitin Mukesh's entry on stage was marked by loud applause.

Accompanied by a special eight-member troupe of musicians who had come especially from Mumbai, the singer accepted every song request that came in from the audience, including some of his and his father's hits such as Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein, So Gya Yeh Jahaan and Dum Dum Diga Diga.

While crediting his father as the source of his inspiration in adopting the path of music, an emotional Nitin Mukesh said, "Your love has exceeded my expectations. I still remember the times I accompanied my father to Ludhiana for musical concerts and the love that he would get from the audience. I have no words to express how I feel today."

So overwhelmed was Nitin Mukesh with the hospitality that he received whilst here, that he said he felt like getting Punjabi daughters-in-law for both his sons.
