Enraged over their friend suffering injuries in a mishap involving a roadways bus, around 20 students of Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Bitna, Pinjore, vandalised some Haryana Roadways buses at the Sector 5 bus stand on Thursday.
The victim, Mohit, had met with an accident involving a Haryana Roadways bus on Wednesday, following which he was admitted in Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.
Later, on Thursday morning, his classmates held a protest against the roadways at the Sector-5 bus stand, demanding action against the guilty bus driver and compensation for Mohit. Meanwhile, some of the protesters started pelting the buses with stones, smashing their windscreens and windowpanes, forcing roadways employees to run for cover. They did not even spare the official vehicle of the regional transport officer.
Onlookers called in the police who tried to pacify the students, but in vain. The protesters again started pelting the buses with stones, compelling police to use mild lathicharge.
Eventually, some of the students were rounded up and taken to the Sector 5 police station.
“We have arrested two students in the case. We are verifying the involvement of others,” said inspector Baljeet Singh, SHO, Sector 5 police station.
