Capt disapproves of sacking of Cong office-bearers

Captain Amarinder Singh, Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, on Thursday disapproved of the indiscriminate sacking of the party’s elected office-bearers, including district and block presidents.

“Instead of keeping our doors open, we are shutting these, and that too on our own elected office-bearers who have stood by the party for a long time,” he said.

The leader also sought investigation into the circumstances under which some proclaimed offenders were allowed to enter Punjab Congress Bhawan during the visit of party’s all-India vice-president Rahul Gandhi.

“It is shocking to that while the elected representatives and senior leaders such as Rana Sodhi, Arvind Khanna and Rana KP were not allowed to enter Congress Bhawan, proclaimed offenders and gangsters, who turned out to be special invitees of the PCC (Pradesh Congress Committee) president, had a free run of the place,” said Amarinder, calling it a serious matter.

Referring to a number of telephone calls between the proclaimed offenders and the Pradesh Congress Committee president, Amarinder said state Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa could not shrug the blame by saying that he did not know them and had picked up their calls randomly.

“It was not an isolated call but at least 10 long-duration conversations,” Amarinder added.
