The dog that had bitten 13 persons, including seven children, in Manimajra on March 25 was rabid. The dog’s brain samples, which were sent for examination to Kasauli-based Central Research Institute (CRI), confirmed it was suffering from rabies. It had died on Friday.

The municipal corporation (MC) authorities claimed that the victims were undergoing proper treatment, and were being given tetanus, immuneglobulin and anti-rabies vaccines. Dr LK Gupta, joint director, Government Veterinary Hospital, Sector 22, said, “The CRI lab has confirmed that the dog was affected with rabbies. Victims are undergoing proper treatment.”

According to information, 12 of the 13 patients were administered the anti-rabies vaccine at the civil dispensary in Sector 19.

Pertinent to mention that on March 25, as many as 13 persons were bitten by a dog in a Mani Majra colony. Mayor Poonam Sharma on Saturday met the victims and took stock of the medication being given to victims.

A doctor and a pharmacist also accompanied her. Sharma said the MC would ensure they get proper treatment, and also appealed to the NGOs to come forward for help. However, she also clarified the MC didn’t have a policy of awarding compensation to victims.
