Chandigarh to host CII's agro-tech fair in November

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Thursday announced that its biennial flagship fair 'CII Agro Tech 2014' will be held from November 22 to 25 at Chandigarh.

Punjab and Haryana will be hosting the 11th edition of this fair. The union ministry of agriculture and the union ministry of food processing industries will be partner ministries.Chairman of CII Agro Tech 2014 Pawan Goenka said: "Through the fair, we aim to showcase the latest innovations that will elevate agricultural practices in India. It will also focus on issues related to agricultural policy and bring all key stakeholders - governments, scientists, farmers and the industry on to a single platform."

Stating that agro tech would play a critical role in the country, Goenka maintained that it was pertinent to showcase the best practices from the world and adopt them in agricultural pockets across the country in order to enhance productivity."

Goenka said the annual agri fair would be expected to play a critical role in revolutionising the Indian agricultural sector.
He believed that the fair reflected the Modi government's thrust on improving agricultural productivity and increasing the sector's falling share in India's Gross Domestic Product.

Goenka said: "The fair will bridge the gap between the farming community and other stakeholders too."

According to CII northern region chairman Zubin Irani, participants from 11 countries, including Germany; Canada; Italy; Israel; South Africa; France; Netherlands; Spain; Russia; Ivory Coast and Poland; will showcase their latest technologies during the fair.

He added: "We are also expecting farmers and scientists from Bangladesh, China, Canada, Pakistan, Nepal and New Zealand."

In the previous editions, as many as 36 international exhibitors and 108 domestic exhibitors have taken part.
This year's theme is 'Building global competitiveness in agriculture'.
