Clean India: Campaign extends to Sectors 44, 45, 46

The ongoing Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by the municipal corporation (MC) extended to Sectors like 44, 45 and 46 on Monday.

MC deployed more manpower and machinery to lift garbage, horticultural waste, 'malba' and other waste material from these areas. MC commissioner Vivek Pratap Singh inaugurated the campaign in Sector 46.

Senior deputy mayor Heera Negi urged residents not to litter in streets or open spaces in order to maintain cleanliness and asked people to fully cooperate to make Chandigarh, a garbage free city.

Under information education and communication (IEC) strategy, vice-principal and teachers of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 46, Chandigarh, were apprised about the importance of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

A pledge, that they would devote at least two hours a week for the cleanliness of their school/houses and surroundings, was also administered to school students.

Experts also informed about different ways to get rid of communicable diseases. "As polythene bags are banned in the city, people should avoid using them,"said an expert. Besides, as many as 22 sanitation challans were issued to defaulters throwing 'malba' or wastage under Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (Sanitation and Public Health) Bylaws Act, 1999. A team of dog catchers was also deployed by the civic body.
