The Congress councillors of the Chandigarh municipal corporation organised a meeting regarding the theft of electricity at a Teej function organised by the BJP leaders on July 31 in Sector 38 West, here on Monday.

The Congress councillors of the Chandigarh municipal corporation organised a meeting regarding the theft of electricity at a Teej function organised by the BJP leaders on July 31 in Sector 38 West, here on Monday.

The councillors said the function was held in blatant violation of the rules and regulations of the competent authorities, including the Chandigarh administration and municipal corporation.

Pardeep Chhabra, spokesperson of the Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee, said on July 31, senior BJP leaders, including Asha Jaswal; national secretary of BJP Mahila Morcha, Arun Sood, sitting MCC councillor, area councillor and several others, organised a function to celebrate Teej festival in a park in Sector 38 West here.

Chhabra said electricity connection was taken from the adjoining main electrical feeder of the electricity department by using the kundi connection (theft of electricity) by the above mentioned BJP leaders. A complaint regarding the same was made by some resident of the locality on the same day.

However, the electricity department officials on reaching the spot levied a fine of Rs of Rs.15,000 and did not made a criminal complaint of theft with the police.

It was also discussed in the meeting that the electricity department officials, who had visited the spot pursuant to the complaint, only fined the tent house owner instead of initiating the criminal action against the organisers, under the pressure of the BJP leader Arun Sood.

It was decided in the meeting that the delegation of the Congress councillors will meet adviser to the UT administrator, commissioner of the municipal corporation and district magistrate on Tuesday and will demand immediate registration of FIR against BJP leaders.
