The Dharmik Darshan Didar Yatra, carrying the relics of Sikh Gurus, culminated here on Thursday on the second day of the celebrations to mark to 350th foundation day of the birthplace of the Khalsa.

Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal welcomed the yatra on its arrival in this holy town. The yatra had started from Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib, Patiala, on May 6 and passed through various parts of the state.

The bus carrying the relics would be stationed at a pandal near the main pandal set up at the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) grounds to enable devotees to have a glimpse.

The yatra was given a rousing welcome on its arrival here from Kiratpur Sahib. A procession was led by the motorcade carrying the Guru Granth Sahib. Nihangs on horsback and Sikh youths performing gatka were the attractions of the last leg of the yatra. Nihangs also beat drums while riding camels and elephants.

Addressing the gathering, the chief minister said, “We are all fortunate to have a glimpse of the Gurus’ relics during our lifetime.”

He said the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) had always endeavoured to showcase the rich legacy of the Khalsa Panth by commemorating such mega events.

The chief minister exhorted the people to follow the path shown by the Sikh Gurus to achieve the goal of divinity. Badal said these relics would now be permanently kept at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib.

Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib jathedar Giani Mal Singh, Takht Sri Patna Sahib jathedar Giani Iqbal Singh, Punjab education minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema, Akali MP Prem Singh Chandumajra, Sant Samaj chief Baba Harnam Singh Dhumma, Budha Dal chief Baba Balbir Singh and Taruna Dal chief Baba Nihal Singh Hariyan Belawale were also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, a light-and-sound programme ‘Hind Di Awaz’ was presented at Virasat-e-Khalsa on Thursday.

The celebrations will conclude with a major conference on Friday. Union home minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president Amit Shah, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje, Chhattisgarh governor Balramji Dass Tandon and yoga guru Ramdev are among those expected to attend the conference.
