The two schools include Bal Niketan Model School, Sector 37 and Strawberry Field World School, Sector 26.

Meanwhile, out of 23 private high schools only six are recognised, whereas the education department claims that inspections are almost complete.

Out of 32 prominent senior secondary schools in city, where thousands of students take admissions every year, only two schools were able to renew their recognition according to the website. The 32 schools that the department website lists include aided and un-aided private senior secondary schools.

Four committees were formed to see that all schools are covered for inspection in order to give recognition, but they have failed to do so it seems.

DPI (schools) Upkar Singh, UT education department, when contacted said: "The recognition is under process and most of the work has been completed. There are 32 schools and only a handful of schools are left now. The inspection has been carried out at schools and all schools will be recognised soon. We started with the schools, whose expiration date was the oldest, which is why the delay occurred."

Preetam Singh, whose ward studies at KB DAV said: "This is a serious issue and has been raised time and again. We welcome the move, after all who doesn't want that their child studies in a good and recognised school?"

An education department official requesting anonymity said: "There has been a delay for sure and the laxity was shown by both the education department as well as the schools. The schools were supposed to submit their self-declaration forms in 2011, after which the inspection was to be conducted. Those schools that provided the forms were inspected on time, while those who did not were left out, thereby causing the delay. The department too for some reasons failed to upload the details on its website."
