Fortis hospital row : Why FIR against one doctor only, HC asks Haryana; seeks report
The HC bench asked why only one doctor has been booked in this case and no action has been proposed against others involved in the treatment.
The Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday questioned the Haryana government why it has booked only one doctor in a case in which a Gurgaon hospital charged Rs 18 lakh from a family for dengue treatment.
The high court division bench of justice AK Mittal and justice Amit Rawal asked the Haryana government to submit a probe report by January 18 . The state govt was asked to provide details about the hospitalisation and treatment of the victim, Adya Singh, daughter of an IT professional from Gurgaon.
The HC also observed that the matter should have been probed by a special investigation team (SIT) and not by an individual.
The HC bench asked why only one doctor has been booked in this case and no action has been proposed against others involved in the treatment.
The family of seven-year-old, who died of dengue , was asked to foot a bill of Rs 18 lakh for her 15-day stay in the hospital.
She was referred to Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurgaon, after she was diagnosed with dengue and her condition deteriorated on August 31. As per reports, the family decided to shift Adya to another hospital on September 14, but she died at Fortis before she could be discharged.
The court was hearing a suo motu petition initiated by the high court.
The matter was brought before the court by the amicus curiae, senior advocate Anupam Gupta, following which the high court had sought a report.
The government apprised the court that an FIR has been registered in the matter, but did not share the report. Gupta, while praising the government for swift action, demanded that it be asked to submit the probe report in court.
The Gurgaon police registered a case of culpable homicide against a doctor following a complaint by the Haryana health department on December 10.
