Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, who presided over the court, has also directed the principal to cooperate with the investigation.

It is pertinent to mention here that following the death of private engineering college student, who had hanged himself from the ceiling of his rented accommodation, the state police has registered a case under Sections 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under the Himachal Pradesh Educational Institutions (anti ragging) Act, 2009, against the college management and two of its students, in connection with the incident.

18-year-old Amit Kumar from Palampur was a first year civil engineering diploma student of the college and had joined the college only a month ago. The victim's father has filed a complaint of ragging and harassment by the senior students and has also accused the college authorities for not taking any action, in spite of a complaint filed by his son, two days before his death.
