Appeasing Jat voters, the Prime Minister Narendra modi on Saturday lauded Khap panchayats at an election rally at Jind, the heartland of the community.

Addressing a well attended rally at this historic village associated with Mahabharata, Modi said ”mein Khap (panchayats) ki sardari wali is dharti to namam katta hoon”.

In Haryana politics, Jind, the central part of the state, has an important place and various political parties feel that it is important to win over Jat voters of Bangar to win elections in the state.

Jind and its adjoining districts are named Bangar after the local dialect Bangru.

Leaders like late deputy prime minister Devi Lal, Om Prakash Chautala and Bhupinder Singh Hooda had always tried to establish themselves in the rural hinterland of central Haryana before and after forming their respective governments.

Prime minister who rakes up national issues during his rallies did not touch upon a single issue today.

Meanwhile, Modi said that he was impressed with the response from Bangar at today’s rally and it would once again prove poll pundits electoral projections of the BJP.

He made a direct attack on INLD and Congress leadership for using Bangar belt dominated by Jats mere as “vote bank”.

“Bangar belt was completely ignored by the parties who formed the government with the support of the area. While the farmers were deprived of proper irrigation and power facilities, youth of the area was always ignored by the power hungry parties who concentrated development in their home districts,” said Modi.

Making an appeal to give a clear mandate to BJP, Modi said that it was needed to check anti-people dynastic politics and goondaism.

“In the recent history of 25 years of Haryana, politicians from the five families retained power. These families have secret pacts to help each other in gaining power and indulge only in lawlessness and rampant corruption. Give BJP a chance with absolute majority and we will involve all sections of the society under development,” he said.

Modi said Jind was ignored by INLD and Chautala as the area was being represented by an upright and a popular leader like Birender Singh.

“While towns (in north Haryana) along the national highway-1 have seen development, interior parts of Haryana have been ignored completely. I promise inclusive development of the region while no other part would be given a step-motherly treatment by the BJP,” he said.

BJP leader and man behind today’s political show Birender Singh, had an embarrassing moment at the election rally.

On Modi’s arrival, the former Rajya Sabha member, Singh had to present a sword to the PM. But the gift was taken by one of Singh’s close aide away from stage and the leader had to ask for it. Modi was seen directing his protection commandos to clear the security check of the sword and rush to the dais.
